About Worthing Sand Courts
Beach Inspiration
In the beginning...
Built in 2011 thanks to a £32,500 grant from Sport England via Volleyball England and £17,000 from Worthing Borough Council, the sand courts were created to encourage more people to play sport.
Adur & Worthing Councils' Regeneration Team successfully applied for the money to replace disused tennis courts at the Beach House Grounds with the multi sport sand court and a few years later flood lighting was added, helped by funding from WSCC's Kick Start Programme to increase the opportunities for clubs and the community to use this facility at all times of day, throughout the year.
The next chapter...
Since their conception, the sand courts have grown in use and popularity now providing a home for a number of sand sports clubs and activity centres including Sussex Beach Volleyball Club, Beach Tennis UK and Beach Soccer amongst others and in 2016 the courts received new management in the form of Stefan Sykes (former owner of Coast Cafe) and Sussex Beach Volleyball Club offering new opportunities to take significant steps forward with Sand Sports in Worthing and beyond.
Looking forward to 2019 and beyond...
From April 2019, even more opportunities will be available to the Worthing community as Sussex Beach Volleyball Club becomes part of Sideout Volleyball Club. This will provide the local Worthing sand sports community with links into the sand sports network of London and provide additional high quality competition and coaching.
